Belgian outfit Royal Francs Borains have strengthened their midfield with the acquisition of Ghanaian talent Emmanuel Essiam, who arrives on a season-long loan from Swiss side FC Basel.

The 21-year-old midfielder moves in search of consistent game time after struggling for regular minutes in the Swiss Super League. Essiam first rose to prominence at the 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, playing a pivotal role as the Black Satellites lifted the continental crown. His standout displays quickly earned him a switch to Basel in early 2022, opening the door to European football.

Since then, the versatile midfielder has continued his development with loan stints at Stade Lausanne-Ouchy and FC Aarau. At Aarau last season, he featured in 14 matches, impressing with his energy, strength, and ability to dominate midfield duels. Across his Basel career and loan spells, Essiam has already accumulated 41 professional appearances.

Borains’ sporting director Laurent D’Affnay was thrilled to secure the Ghanaian’s services, underlined as quoted by the club media.

“Emmanuel is a player we’ve been following closely. His intensity, power, and work ethic will be vital for us this season,” he stated.

Essiam himself is relishing the fresh challenge in Belgium.

“I was convinced by the club’s vision after speaking with the director and coach. This is the right step for my growth, and I’m determined to contribute to the team’s success,” Essiam said.

The move marks a significant chapter in Essiam’s journey as he aims to fulfill the potential he showcased on the continental stage with Ghana’s U20 side.
