Bibiani Gold Stars have made a bold statement of intent by unveiling Swiss tactician Fritz Markus Schmid as their new head coach, entrusting him with the task of steering the club’s next phase of growth and competitiveness.

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions confirmed the appointment in an official notice issued on Monday, December 22, announcing that Schmid has committed his future to the club on a two-year contract.

“We’re pleased to share that Swiss international Fritz Markus Schmid has joined us as our new Head Coach, signing a two-year contract with the club. “Welcome to the family, Coach Fritz. We’re glad to have you with us,” Gold Stars said in a post on X.

Schmid arrives in Bibiani with an impressive résumé that spans both club and international football at the highest levels.

Over the years, he has built a reputation as a tactically astute and well-rounded coach, having served as an assistant at elite institutions including Tottenham Hotspur and FC Basel, as well as with the Austria National Team. He later took on the demanding role of head coach of the New Zealand Men’s National Team, further sharpening his credentials on the global stage.

Closer to home, the Swiss coach recently left his mark on Ghanaian football by playing a pivotal role in Kotoku Royals’ successful push for promotion to the top flight, underlining his familiarity with the local game and its unique demands.

Now officially on the books of Gold Stars, Schmid begins what the club views as an exciting new chapter, one defined by ambition, structured progress, and a clear long-term vision. His appointment signals the club’s desire not only to defend their status among Ghana’s elite, but to build sustainably for continued success.

Gold Stars currently occupy third place on the Ghana Premier League table with 25 points, sitting just three points adrift of leaders Aduana FC. With the title race finely balanced, Schmid’s experience, pedigree, and tactical acumen will be immediately put to the test.
