Hearts of Oak shot-stopper Benjamin Asare has set his sights firmly on the global stage, vowing to replicate his commanding club form when Ghana take their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Fresh off a commanding display in the latest Super Clash, Asare stood tall between the posts as Accra Hearts of Oak edged rivals Asante Kotoko 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium. The fiercely contested encounter was settled by Baba Adamu’s first-half header, a goal that ultimately separated the two giants.
The Phobians were forced to dig deep after Emmanuel Amankwah’s dismissal reduced them to ten men, but Asare’s alertness and composure ensured the slender advantage remained intact until the final whistle.
Having already caught the eye during Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers and international friendlies, the goalkeeper is eager to carry that consistency into football’s biggest tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026.
“I hope to continue these performances at the World Cup,” Asare told Asempa FM. “It was a good game against Asante Kotoko, but we were determined to win and take revenge.”

The presence of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and members of the national team’s technical bench at the stadium did little to distract him, Asare insisted:
“Otto Addo and the Black Stars technical team had no hand in my performance yesterday. I was fully focused on delivering for the team, and I only realised after the game that they had come to support me.”
With confidence swelling and momentum building, Hearts of Oak now shift attention to their upcoming league assignment against Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium, where Asare will once again be central to their ambitions.
For the in-form goalkeeper, the mission is clear: maintain the standard, silence doubters, and step onto the World Cup stage ready to command it.
