Ghana international Lawrence Ati-Zigi delivered a standout performance to inspire FC St. Gallen to Swiss Cup success after the club defeated Lausanne Ouchy 3-0 in Sunday’s final.
The Black Stars shot-stopper was thrust into the spotlight under dramatic circumstances moments before halftime following the dismissal of reserve goalkeeper Lukas Watkowiak.
Watkowiak, who had featured prominently throughout St. Gallen’s cup journey this season, was shown a red card late in the first half, forcing the coaching staff into an emergency reshuffle between the posts.
With the stakes high and his side reduced to ten men, Ati-Zigi entered the contest and immediately brought calmness, authority, and confidence to the team’s defensive setup.
St. Gallen had already seized control of the final early on when German defender Tom Gaal broke the deadlock in the eighth minute, giving the Swiss side a perfect start.
Despite their numerical disadvantage after the interval, St. Gallen continued to dictate proceedings with impressive discipline and organisation, while Ati-Zigi produced several important interventions to frustrate Lausanne Ouchy.
Club captain Lukas Gortler extended the advantage in the 65th minute from the penalty spot, placing St. Gallen firmly in command before Christian Witzig added further gloss to the scoreline with a late strike deep into stoppage time.

Ati-Zigi’s assured display proved decisive as he preserved the clean sheet with composure and sharp reflexes, capping a memorable cameo performance that earned widespread admiration.
The victory hands St. Gallen another major domestic honour and provides Ati-Zigi with yet another reminder of his dependability whenever called upon on the big stage.
