Two-time CAF Champions League winners Asante Kotoko have landed a key defensive signing, completing the acquisition of Musa Hamzata, Kickgh confirms. The 23-year-old centre-back, formerly of Accra Lions, joins the Kumasi outfit as they gear up for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Hamzata has built a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable defenders, earning admirers across the country for his assured displays and consistency. Interest in his services was widespread, with Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, and Nations FC all linked, but Kotoko ultimately won the chase for his signature.

Towering in stature and commanding in presence, Hamzata is noted for his dominance in aerial duels, composure when building from the back, and organizational ability, qualities Kotoko have been desperate to add following a season plagued by costly defensive lapses.

His arrival is seen as a cornerstone of the club’s rebuilding project under a fresh technical direction. The centre-back has already integrated into training, with the Porcupine Warriors currently engaged in the GHALCA Top Four tournament.

Results have not gone their way yet, after defeats to Bibiani GoldStars and Heart of Lions, but Hamzata’s addition is expected to provide steel and balance to the squad.
