Asante Kotoko staged a dramatic late revival at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, overturning what looked like a certain defeat to secure a 2-2 draw against Medeama in a roller-coaster Premier League encounter.
Medeama wasted no time grabbing control of the match, stunning the hosts with an early opener inside five minutes. Derrick Fordjour pounced on a defensive scramble and unleashed a composed volley that left the Kotoko backline rooted. The visitors tightened their grip barely a quarter of an hour later when Yussif Mubarik expertly dispatched a penalty, plunging Kotoko into deeper trouble and igniting wild celebrations in the Medeama end.
Kotoko, shaken and chasing shadows for much of the first half, emerged for the second period with renewed purpose. Their improved intensity began to trouble Medeama, and the breakthrough finally arrived in the 69th minute. Peter Amidu Acquah reacted quickest to a loose ball in the crowded box, driving home to halve the deficit and reawaken the home supporters.
With belief restored, Kotoko piled forward relentlessly, bombarding the Medeama defence in the dying stages. Their unyielding pressure paid off in the final seconds of stoppage time, when skipper Samba O’Neil soared majestically above a sea of defenders to plant a powerful header into the net, triggering euphoric scenes across the stadium.

The numbers told the story of a tightly contested duel. Possession was split evenly at 50-50, but Kotoko were far busier in attack, registering 20 attempts to Medeama’s nine. The Porcupine Warriors hit the target seven times, while Medeama managed five efforts on goal.
Medeama, who appeared moments away from climbing to the top of the table, were left frustrated as a second consecutive draw kept them lodged in second place. Kotoko, meanwhile, continue to search for consistency after failing to win their last three league matches, this spirited comeback earning them solace but not satisfaction.

The Kumasi giants now turn their attention to an away trip against Hohoe United, while Medeama prepare for a crucial showdown with Berekum Chelsea as both teams look to rediscover winning momentum.
