Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan has voiced unwavering belief in the Black Stars’ ability to punch their ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In an exclusive chat with Footy-Africa, Gyan highlighted the team’s blend of talent, mentality, and form as key ingredients for success in the crucial final round of qualifiers.
The legendary striker has joined the squad in Morocco ahead of two pivotal clashes against the Central African Republic and Comoros. Gyan has been an active presence in camp, motivating players and sharing his vast experience as the team strives for a fifth World Cup appearance.
Speaking to Footy-Africa exclusively before travelling with the team, Gyan radiated optimism about Ghana’s prospects.
“The Black Stars have enough quality to beat any opponent,” he said. “I’m very confident because you can see most of the players are in top form for their clubs. These matches are huge for the team and for the country, and I believe the boys are ready to give everything. The spirit is good, and if we stay focused, qualification is very possible.”
The former captain also lauded the current crop of players, pointing to recent club performances as evidence of their readiness. Mohammed Kudus recently opened his scoring account for Tottenham, Antoine Semenyo produced a breathtaking brace for Bournemouth, while Fatawu Issahaku continues to impress in the English Championship.
“Otto Addo will be delighted with what he’s seeing from his players,” Gyan added. “This is a group with real potential; young, hungry, and talented. They just have to believe in themselves and play with the same passion they show at club level. Everything is in their hands.”
Having represented Ghana at four World Cups and netted six goals on the world stage, Gyan understands the pressures and demands of football’s biggest tournament. He hopes that his presence and guidance within the camp can inspire the Black Stars to rise to the occasion.
