Union Berlin’s clash with Hoffenheim at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei was full of drama, goals, and missed chances, with German-Ghanaian forward Ilyas Ansah grabbing a memorable strike in a 4-2 defeat.

Hoffenheim stamped their authority early, punishing Union’s shaky defending in the opening half. Andrej Kramaric coolly dispatched a penalty before Fisnik Asllani rose highest to nod home, giving the visitors a comfortable 2-0 lead at the interval.

But Union came alive immediately after the restart. Just four minutes into the second half, Ansah latched onto a loose ball inside the box and finished clinically, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. The hope, however, was short-lived—Asllani struck again almost instantly to restore Hoffenheim’s cushion.

Tom Rothe dragged Union back into contention with a stunning effort in the 71st minute, but his night ended disastrously when he saw red eleven minutes later. Reduced to ten men, Union could not resist Hoffenheim’s late push, and Tim Lemperle’s penalty sealed the visitors’ 4-2 win.

Sechs Tore an der Alten Försterei – leider keine Punkte für Union.

Aber auch über Niederlagen müssen wir sprechen:

Ansah’s sharpness and work rate stood out in an otherwise frustrating afternoon, offering Union fans a glimpse of promise as they prepare for next week’s trip to Eintracht Frankfurt.
