Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has expressed immense pride and gratitude after helping the Black Stars clinch qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Spartak Moscow centre-back has been one of Ghana’s standout performers throughout the qualifying campaign, playing a crucial role in the team’s resurgence following the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Djiku was instrumental at both ends of the pitch, his commanding presence in defence complemented by vital contributions in attack. He netted two important goals during the qualifiers, including the decisive strike against fierce rivals Mali, which proved pivotal in Ghana’s push toward World Cup qualification. He was also on the scoresheet during the emphatic win over the Central African Republic, before delivering another solid performance in the final fixture against the Comoros.

Ghana ultimately topped Group I with 25 points from ten matches, sealing their return to football’s grandest stage.

Following the achievement, a visibly elated Djiku took to social media to share his excitement:

“So proud and grateful. We’re going to the 2026 World Cup! Big thank you to everyone who’s been with us from day one. Ghana to the USA… we move together.”

The Black Stars, four-time African champions, have now joined Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria as the first five African nations confirmed for the 2026 World Cup.
