Aduana FC have secured a major boost ahead of the business end of the season after highly-rated defender Alex Boakye put pen to paper on a new contract extension, ending months of speculation over his future.
The experienced centre-back, now 30, has been a cornerstone of the Dormaa-based side since joining in 2020 and continues to rank among the most reliable defenders in the Ghana Premier League. Currently in his sixth season with the “Ogya” lads, Boakye’s consistency, leadership and defensive intelligence have made him one of the standout performers in the topflight.
During the ongoing 2025/26 campaign, the enterprising guardsman has featured in 14 league matches, chipping in with a goal and earning widespread praise for his commanding presence at the back. Many observers regard him as arguably the finest defender in the league this season.
Unsurprisingly, his form sparked serious interest from several clubs, with reports linking him strongly to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, who were said to be deep in negotiations in a bid to lure him away from Dormaa.
Those ambitions, however, have now been firmly shut down. Boakye has opted for stability and continuity, choosing to extend his stay with Aduana FC by signing a fresh two-year contract, with an option for an additional year.
The club confirmed the development in an official statement, saying: “Alex Boakye has signed a new two -year contract at Aduana FC with an option to extend for a further year. We wish him the very best as he continues his journey with the us.”
Boakye’s renewal comes at a crucial time for Aduana Stars, who currently sit top of the Ghana Premier League standings with 28 points. His presence will once again be vital as the league leaders prepare for their upcoming clash against Young Apostles this weekend, where the defender is expected to retain his place in the starting lineup.
For Aduana FC, tying down one of the league’s most dependable defenders is not just a statement of intent, but a clear signal of their determination to push for silverware this season.
