Ghana international midfielder Abu Francis is making encouraging strides in his recovery after undergoing a successful surgical procedure in Japan, according to an update from the Ghana Football Association.
The operation, which took place earlier this week at the Toyota Memorial Hospital, addressed fractures to both his tibia and fibula. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that the player’s condition has “significantly improved,” noting that the early signs of healing are promising.
Hospital sources indicate that Francis has remained upbeat through the ordeal, displaying strong morale as he begins the first steps of what is expected to be a lengthy rehabilitation journey. If his progress continues at the current pace, he is set to be released from the hospital before the weekend.

The GFA expressed appreciation to everyone involved in the midfielder’s care, from the Japanese surgical team to the Black Stars’ medical unit led by Dr. Prince Pambo, as well as the medical department of Toulouse FC, for their coordinated and timely intervention.
Despite the positive outlook, Toulouse has confirmed that Francis will not recover in time to feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
For now, his attention turns toward a measured, well-managed return to full fitness, with hopes of rejoining competitive action once his rehabilitation is complete.
