Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr. Randy Abbey, has confirmed that Ghana’s national football team will undergo further technical reinforcement in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) moved swiftly to enhance the national team’s technical capacity, bringing on board seasoned experts like Winfried Schäfer, Desmond Ofei, and Gregory De Grauwe.

Now, with the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico fast approaching, Dr. Abbey says the GFA is determined to continue upgrading the technical and support departments of the team to ensure a stronger showing on the global stage.

“From where I sit, we are contracted to Otto. I haven’t seen the employers of Otto Addo call for a change. What I know is that before every major competition, AFCON or World Cup, we strengthen the technical setup, scouting, and medical team,” he explained to the press.

According to Dr. Abbey, the federation has a long-standing practice of bolstering the Black Stars’ backroom staff before every major tournament, a process that spans multiple departments.

“For every competition, we always beef up the technical team, whether it’s AFCON or the World Cup. In the areas of medical, technical, scouting, or video analysis, we bring in additional expertise. We are going to have that conversation to identify where our weaknesses are and how to improve. The goal is to ensure a better technical appreciation of what is before us,” he added.

Dr. Abbey was quick to stress that these changes are not aimed at replacing Otto Addo, but rather to provide him with a more robust support system.

“The focus is on improving the structure around him, not changing him. We want to ensure the team is better equipped technically and tactically for the challenge ahead,” he concluded.

Current assistants John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda will maintain their positions within the technical setup as preparations intensify.

Ghana will learn their group-stage opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup when the draw is held on December 5.
