Newly appointed Carlos Queiroz has begun his tenure as head coach of Ghana national football team with a strong message of respect for the country’s football legacy and confidence in its future.

The seasoned Portuguese tactician was formally introduced on Monday evening, stepping into the role on a short-term four-month contract as he prepares to guide Ghana toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Speaking shortly after his unveiling, Queiroz made it clear that he views the assignment as far more than a routine coaching job:

“It is with a deep sense of gratitude, responsibility, and humility that I embrace this new chapter with Ghana. This is not just another job; it is a mission.”

Drawing from decades of experience at both club and international level, including roles with Real Madrid and the Iran national team. Queiroz acknowledged the deep-rooted football culture that defines Ghana:

“Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul. I arrive with respect for its history and belief in its future.”

The 71-year-old emphasized that his immediate focus will be on building cohesion within the squad, instilling discipline, and aligning the team with a clear competitive identity:

“Together, with unity, discipline, and ambition, we will work to honour the expectations of a great football nation.”

Queiroz is expected to waste no time getting to work, beginning with a comprehensive evaluation of players, assembling his technical team, and shaping tactical plans ahead of crucial international fixtures.

His first opportunity to assess the squad in action will come in an upcoming friendly against Mexico national football team, followed by a final warm-up clash against Wales national football team on June 2.

Ghana, preparing for their fifth appearance on football’s biggest stage, have been placed in a challenging group. The Black Stars will face Panama in their opening match on June 17, before taking on England on June 23.

Their group-stage journey concludes with a test against Croatia on June 27.

With time limited and expectations high, Queiroz’s task is clear: harness Ghana’s renowned talent and translate it into a cohesive, competitive force on the world stage.
