Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston believes football fans are in for a spectacle when the Black Stars square off with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, set for their fifth appearance on the global stage, were drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama during Friday’s ceremony in Washington. The campaign begins on June 17 in Toronto against Panama, before a highly anticipated clash with the Three Lions on June 23 in Boston. Croatia, runners-up in 2018, await in Philadelphia on June 27 for the final group fixture.
Kingston expressed his excitement about the pairing, highlighting the special connection between Ghana and England over the years.
“It was exciting seeing Ghana paired in the same group with England. We all know England is the second home for Ghanaians. We used to play our friendly games there. Our game against England will be exciting,” he stated.
The 2026 edition, jointly hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, marks the first tournament under the expanded 48-team format, which has awarded Africa a historic nine automatic qualifying spots.
Ghana’s World Cup path set: Black Stars to navigate Canada-USA route
This World Cup will be Ghana’s fifth, following appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022. Their standout run remains the 2010 campaign, where the Black Stars reached the quarterfinals and came within touching distance of a historic semifinal berth.
