Ghana international Samuel Owusu played a decisive role as Maccabi Petah Tikva secured promotion to the Israeli Premier League with one match still left in the 2025/26 campaign.
Petah Tikva confirmed their return to the top division after battling to a dramatic draw away to Bnei Yehuda in a tense promotion clash.
The home side struck first through Eyal Inbrum in the 27th minute and carried their advantage into halftime. After the restart, Bnei Yehuda looked set for victory when Dani Amer and Matan Levy scored in quick succession in the 47th and 51st minutes to overturn the contest and put the hosts 2-1 ahead.
But Petah Tikva refused to fold under pressure. Franck Rivollier pulled one back just minutes later before grabbing the crucial equaliser in the 54th minute, a goal that ultimately sealed promotion and sparked celebrations among the visiting side.
Owusu has been one of the standout performers behind the club’s successful campaign. The experienced winger delivered consistently throughout the season, ending the league term with four goals and eleven assists in 35 appearances during his first year at the club. He also chipped in with another strike in domestic cup competition.
Operating mainly from the right flank, the former Al-Ahli Saudi FC attacker brought creativity, speed, and composure to Petah Tikva’s attacking play. His ability to drift into central areas, create openings, and influence decisive moments proved invaluable during the promotion push.
Owusu’s vast experience across several leagues has also been key to his impact. Over the years, he has featured for clubs such as Gençlerbirliği, FK Čukarički, FK Radnik Surdulica, OFK Beograd, Al-Fayha FC, and Al-Ahli, experiences that have helped refine his tactical intelligence and leadership on the pitch.
Following an impressive season in Israel, the 30-year-old is now strongly pushing for a place in Ghana national football team squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
