Ghanaian centre-back Nathaniel Adjei is brimming with joy after finally regaining fitness and earning a place in FC Lorient’s Matchday squad ahead of their Ligue 1 encounter with Stade Brestois on Sunday.

The 23-year-old defender has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines following a serious injury that prematurely interrupted his bright start to life in France after joining from Swedish outfit Hammarby IF.

Adjei’s absence left a noticeable void in Lorient’s backline, with the team struggling for stability and consistency since the campaign began. His recovery comes as a timely boost for manager Olivier Pantaloni, who has long praised the Ghanaian’s professionalism, discipline, and maturity on and off the pitch.

Having impressed the coaching staff with his intensity and sharpness during recent training sessions, Adjei has convinced the technical team that he is ready to step back into competitive action. His return is expected to add much-needed solidity and composure to Lorient’s defence as they fight to rise up the Ligue 1 standings.

Speaking to GHANASoccernet.com, the former Ghana U-20 star couldn’t hide his emotions after being named in the squad.

“It’s been a tough period, but I’m thankful to God, my family, and the club’s medical staff for standing by me. I’ve worked hard to get back, and now I just want to help the team,” Adjei remarked.

Sunday’s clash with Brest will be more than just another league fixture, it represents a personal triumph for Adjei, marking his return to the fold after months of rehabilitation and perseverance.

Should he make an appearance, it will be his first since the injury setback, a symbolic step in his mission to reclaim his place among Ligue 1’s most promising young defenders and reignite a career that was only beginning to flourish before misfortune struck.
