Young Apostles’ simmering frustration with officiating in the Ghana Premier League has boiled over, with the club’s hierarchy now threatening a dramatic protest that could see them effectively withdraw from competition.

The Wenchi-based outfit was left incensed after a contentious 2-2 draw with Hohoe United on Matchday 19 at the Wenchi Sports Stadium, a result they believe typifies what they describe as consistently poor refereeing throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

In the aftermath of that encounter, the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Gerald Domfeh, delivered a startling declaration that has sent shockwaves across the domestic game.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Domfeh revealed that Young Apostles have resolved to boycott the remainder of their Premier League matches as a form of protest, accusing match officials of undermining the integrity of the competition.

“As a club, we have decided to boycott the test of our Premier League games. We will show up during matchdays but will not compete when the game starts,” Domfeh said.

The outspoken administrator went even further, suggesting that remaining in Ghana’s top flight no longer makes sporting or economic sense for the club under the current circumstances. According to Domfeh, a return to the Division One League would be both more sustainable and more profitable.

“It will be appropriate for us to compete in Division One League rather than to play in the Premier League. We can sell players and make money playing in the Division One League, and that is our decision,” he added.

Young Apostles currently sit 15th on the Ghana Premier League table with 22 points, hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone. Their next scheduled fixture is a Matchday 20 clash away to Dreams FC at the Tuba Astro Turf, though it now remains uncertain whether the contest will proceed as normal given the club’s hardline stance.

Domfeh’s comments are likely to intensify debate around refereeing standards in the league, while also placing pressure on football authorities to respond swiftly to avoid a potentially damaging standoff.
