The Ghana Football Association remains firmly confident that Marvin Senaya will pledge his international future to the Black Stars, even as Togo intensifies its pursuit of the versatile defender.

Senaya, currently on the books of AJ Auxerre, finds himself at the center of a cross-national tug-of-war after earning call-ups from both Ghana and Togo for the upcoming international break. Ghana are preparing for high-profile friendly clashes against Austria and Germany, while Togo have also named him in their squad for fixtures against Guinea and Niger.

The simultaneous invitations have cast doubt over which badge the 25-year-old right-back will ultimately wear, with both nations eager to secure his allegiance before he is cap-tied.

However, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has downplayed any uncertainty, stressing that due diligence was done before Senaya’s inclusion in Ghana’s squad.

“Without a player’s word, I think it will be unprofessional to announce a squad when the player hasn’t agreed, when the club hasn’t agreed. There is that assurance that he would make it,” he said on TV3 Ghana.

Twum further revealed that the association’s engagement with the player has been deliberate and sustained over time.

“The FA has been engaging him a number of times. We’ve had conversations with him over a long period of time, and he has accepted to play for us,” he stated.

Eligible for both Ghana and Togo through his father, Yao Mawuko Senaya, the defender has yet to feature at senior international level, leaving the door open for a decisive choice.

With both federations pushing hard, the upcoming international window now looms as a defining moment in Senaya’s career, one that will probably settle his international allegiance for good.
