Stephen Appiah has delivered a stirring message of belief ahead of Ghana’s return to the global stage, insisting the Black Stars are ready to restore pride and deliver a performance worthy of their rich footballing heritage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former national team captain, now serving as Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, says the current generation possesses the mentality and technical quality required to make a meaningful impact next summer. His optimism comes after Ghana regrouped impressively to clinch qualification, rebounding from the frustrations of their 2024 campaign.

With the World Cup draw set to unfold later today in Washington, DC, anticipation across the country is already rising. Appiah, who famously led Ghana to their historic debut World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006, believes the energy surrounding the team is beginning to feel familiar.

“The draw [2026 World Cup] is coming up in December, we are going to America, Canada and Mexico,” Appiah said via Betway. “We have done that before when we went to Germany. And I hope, and I know with the calibre of players that we have, we’re going to make it in the next World Cup, which is next year.

“Good luck. We need your support. We need your prayers. See you in America. See you in Mexico. See you in Canada. Go, Ghana,” he added.

Ghana’s last outing on the world stage, an early exit in Qatar 2022, left both players and supporters craving a stronger showing. This time, with a rejuvenated squad and a united technical setup, the Black Stars are determined to deliver a campaign that rekindles belief and makes the nation proud.

Appiah’s rallying call echoes a broader sentiment: Ghana is not just going to participate, they are going to compete.
