Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has delivered huge praise for Bournemouth’s in-form forward Antoine Semenyo, claiming the Ghanaian winger is now good enough to start for any of the Premier League’s top clubs.
Semenyo’s rise this season has been nothing short of spectacular. The 25-year-old has become the heartbeat of Bournemouth’s attack, powering them to their best-ever start in the top flight. With six goals and three assists to his name, he sits just behind Erling Haaland in the scoring charts, a statistic that highlights how far he has come since joining from Bristol City for £10.5 million in January 2023.
His explosive form has not gone unnoticed. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United both explored potential moves for the Black Star’s forward during the summer, while Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who originally brought Semenyo to Bournemouth, is said to be keeping tabs on his former signing.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor described Semenyo as one of the most complete wide players in the league, praising his physical power, pace, and direct style of play.
“I look at the league table, and name me a team he doesn’t start for on that left-hand side. Name one,” Agbonlahor declared.
“He’s better than [Man City’s Jérémy] Doku. He starts for Arsenal if [Eberechi] Eze plays in that number 10 position. [He’s] better than [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Leandro] Trossard. Better than [Cody] Gakpo [at Liverpool]. Starts for Spurs.”
The Ghana international has produced a string of standout moments this term, including a nerveless penalty to beat Brighton and a thunderous free-kick against Leeds, earning plaudits from teammates and pundits alike. Fellow Bournemouth forward Justin Kluivert recently labelled him “world-class.”

Agbonlahor’s co-host Jamie O’Hara echoed the admiration, urging Tottenham to “go all out” for Semenyo, arguing that his chemistry with compatriot Mohammed Kudus could be electric.
But Agbonlahor wasn’t convinced Spurs would be his ceiling. He suggested Semenyo’s talent and trajectory could take him to a Champions League contender, questioning whether the North London club was “big enough” for a player of his growing stature.
With his blend of power, precision, and hunger, Antoine Semenyo is no longer just Bournemouth’s breakout star, he’s fast becoming one of the Premier League’s most coveted attacking forces.
