Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has voiced his disappointment over the latest injury blow suffered by teammate Mohammed Kudus, admitting the situation is far from ideal as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking during an appearance on the AllOutFootball Podcast, Semenyo disclosed that Kudus encountered a relapse while attempting to return from a long-term quadriceps injury, an issue that had already sidelined him for months. The recurrence has now cast serious doubt over the midfielder’s fitness heading into the global tournament.

“He relapsed during his comeback from his quad injury. It’s frustrating because he is a pivotal factor in the team for sure, we just have to see how it goes,” Semenyo said.
Kudus, currently with Tottenham Hotspur, has struggled for rhythm in his debut campaign due to persistent fitness problems. Despite those setbacks, he has still managed to contribute three goals and six assists in 26 appearances, underlining his importance when available.
For Ghana, the timing could hardly be worse. Kudus is widely regarded as a central creative force, and his potential absence would leave a noticeable gap in the squad’s attacking structure.
The Black Stars face a stern test in Group L, where they are drawn against England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.
Semenyo, who also touched on his own tactical flexibility during the interview, emphasized his comfort operating from wide positions while maintaining optimism that Kudus might yet recover in time.
Ghana’s campaign begins on June 17 in Toronto, where they will face Panama in their opening fixture of the tournament, which kicks off on June 11.
