Benjamin Asare has earned glowing praise from former Black Stars shot-stopper and current goalkeepers’ trainer Fatawu Dauda, who believes the Hearts of Oak captain’s unwavering discipline and steady performances have propelled him to the summit of Ghanaian football.
Dauda, himself once a commanding presence between the posts for AshantiGold SC and Orlando Pirates, did not hold back in commending Asare’s rapid growth and maturity.
Speaking on 3Sports, the former international highlighted the goalkeeper’s evolution into a dependable figure for both club and country.
Asare has become a pillar for Accra Hearts of Oak, wearing the captain’s armband with authority while maintaining high standards on the pitch. His performances have not only anchored his club’s ambitions but also cemented his status with the national team.
Experience over hype? Ex-Kotoko chief questions Asare’s readiness for World Cup
Since earning his maiden call-up in March 2025, the goalkeeper has not relinquished his grip on the number one spot, underlining his importance to the Black Stars setup.
According to Dauda, such progress is no accident:
“He’s doing well for himself and for his club. Being a captain, a leader, and then a commander, you know, it’s not easy. For that position, definitely, you know, you need to be criticised if things are not going well.”
The former Black Stars goalkeeper emphasized that leadership in goal demands more than shot-stopping ability. It requires mental toughness, composure under scrutiny, and the humility to learn, qualities he believes Asare embodies.
Dauda further described the Hearts captain as a quick study who has refined his craft with admirable focus. In his view, Asare’s discipline off the field mirrors his composure on it, forming the foundation of his sustained excellence.
