Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito believes Albert Amoah’s renewed spark since returning to Kumasi has less to do with talent and everything to do with mentality.
The striker has hit the ground running following his brief stint abroad, delivering an instant reminder of his quality with a stunning overhead kick in Kotoko’s commanding 3-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. It was a moment of brilliance that not only lit up the afternoon but also signaled a player reborn.
Amoah had started the 2025/26 campaign promisingly with the Porcupine Warriors before sealing a short-term move to Libyan outfit Al-Ahly Benghazi. Three months later, he returned sharper, more focused, and visibly more driven, qualities that Zito says have transformed his overall contribution.

For Asante Kotoko, the timing could not have been better. The win halted a worrying run that had seen the club struggle for consistency, drawing twice and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Swedru All-Blacks. Amoah’s return injected belief, urgency, and a cutting edge that had been missing in recent weeks.
Zito, speaking to the media on the forward’s evolution, was clear about what has changed, and why.
“His approach has changed, his attitude has changed,” Zito explained. “When you go abroad, certain things force you to become more disciplined, and money plays a big part in that.”
The Kotoko boss went further, highlighting the realities of playing outside Ghana and how they can reshape a player’s outlook:
“If you don’t perform, they deduct from your earnings. Because they pay you more, the approach to the game becomes very different, even though it’s still the same Amoah we all know.”
According to the technical team, Amoah’s experience in Libya has sharpened his professionalism, improved his work ethic, and heightened his sense of responsibility on and off the pitch. Those traits are now beginning to show in his movement, decision-making, and confidence in front of goal.

With Kotoko looking to stabilize their season and mount a serious push, Amoah’s maturity could prove pivotal. If his hunger and discipline remain intact, the Porcupine Warriors may yet reap the full rewards of a striker who has returned not just with flair, but with a transformed mindset.
