FC Copenhagen’s conveyor belt of talent continues to draw attention, and one of its most intriguing prospects is Danish-born Ghanaian defender Graham Ankamafio, who is steadily knocking on the door of senior football at Parken.
The highly rated centre-back is still awaiting his official first-team debut with the Danish Superliga champions, but the signs of trust from the technical bench are becoming increasingly clear.
On Tuesday night, the 18-year-old was included in Copenhagen’s matchday squad for a heavyweight UEFA Champions League encounter against Italian powerhouse Napoli, an indication of how highly he is regarded within the club’s hierarchy.
Although the pulsating contest ended in a 1-1 draw, Ankamafio remained an unused substitute as head coach Jacob Neestrup opted for experience on the night. Even so, his presence among the senior squad for Europe’s elite competition marked a significant milestone in his young career.
Currently a mainstay in FC Copenhagen’s U-19 setup, the composed and physically assured defender has featured in 16 matches across all competitions this season, quietly building a reputation as one of the club’s most promising defensive prospects.
Born in Denmark to Ghanaian parents, Ankamafio represents a fascinating case on the international front. While he has already worn the colours of Denmark at U-16, U-17 and U-18 levels, he remains eligible to pledge his long-term allegiance to Ghana, an option that could add an exciting defensive asset to the Black Stars’ future plans.
For now, the teenager’s focus remains firmly on club football, as he continues to bide his time, develop his craft, and wait for the moment when preparation meets opportunity in FC Copenhagen’s first team.
