The Black Stars winger produced another moment of quality early in the contest, capping a devastating counter-attack in the 13th minute with a clinical first-time finish after being released by former Germany international Marco Reus. The strike marked Paintsil’s fourth Major League Soccer goal of the campaign and underlined his growing influence in Galaxy’s attack.
The 27-year-old remained a constant menace throughout the evening and came agonisingly close to adding to his tally. He rattled the upright in the 68th minute before testing San Jose goalkeeper Angus Gunn with a powerful effort that required a sharp save in the closing stages.

Despite Paintsil’s lively display, the visitors were unable to protect their slender advantage. San Jose restored parity in the 63rd minute through Reid Roberts to ensure the spoils were shared in the California derby.
LA Galaxy were then indebted to goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, who produced a dramatic penalty save deep into stoppage time to deny the Earthquakes a late winner and rescue a valuable point for his side.
