Andre Ayew has described his reunion with Matthew Amoah at NAC Breda as a defining moment in the latest chapter of his career, admitting the former Ghana striker’s presence played a key role in his decision to embrace the challenge in the Netherlands.
The 36-year-old forward had been without competitive football since the start of the 2025/26 season, but his long wait finally ended after sealing a short-term move to the Yellow-Blacks, a deal that includes an option for extension. His return to action has been gradual but encouraging, with appearances already under his belt.
Ayew made his first outing for NAC Breda away to FC Groningen before enjoying his first taste of home football at the Rat Verlegh Stadion, once again coming off the bench as the Eredivisie clash unfolded. Though still easing back into full rhythm, the former Black Stars captain is clearly relishing both the environment and the mentorship around him.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Ayew reflected warmly on his long-standing admiration for Amoah, whom he shared the pitch with during his early international career with Ghana. He revealed that the opportunity to work closely with a player who is deeply connected to NAC Breda carries special significance.
“For me, it’s a great opportunity. What he has done for this club and his career is top. When I was growing up in the youth team, he and Asamoah Gyan were the strikers we looked up to. To be here with him at a club he knows inside out is beneficial. He’s a big brother who can guide me on how the city and the fans think.”
Amoah remains a revered figure at NAC Breda, and Ayew is hoping that proximity to someone who understands the club’s culture, expectations, and supporters can help him make an immediate impact as the team battles near the bottom of the table.
