Veteran Ghanaian tactician Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has shed light on the startling conditions that pushed him to abruptly resign from Eleven Wonders FC, barely weeks after taking charge of the struggling side.

Brought in to steady the ship after a poor start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign, Sarpong’s tenure lasted just three matches, none of which produced a victory. His sudden departure fuelled rumours, but the outspoken coach has now offered a brutally honest explanation.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Sarpong revealed that upon stepping into the role, he found deep-rooted structural problems that made it impossible for him to continue.

“I was contacted to help fix the situation, but upon arrival, I realised that so many things were wrong within the club,” he said.

According to him, the club’s internal chaos was so severe that he feared being held responsible if the team eventually dropped to the second tier.

“Personally, I did not want a situation where it would be said that I was the one in charge when the team got relegated from the Premier League, so I had to make a decision to leave. Players are not paid well and are not fed well. Sometimes, the players can go three days without eating. They have a poor transportation plan. The players are sometimes forced to use public transport, ‘trotro’, which is not good for the players,” he stated.

Sarpong suggested that many of these problems had been kept out of public view, possibly even from his predecessor.

“Nii Odartey Lamptey was in charge and perhaps could not let these things out, but for me, I will say it. The challenges of the club are down to administrative lapses, and so you cannot entirely blame the players for the current situation,” he added.

Eleven Wonders remain rooted to the bottom of the league table with a meagre three points from 11 outings. As the club prepares to face Dreams FC in their next fixture, they are yet to announce a successor to Sarpong, leaving fans worried about what lies ahead for the sinking team.
