Ghana’s rising star, Edmund Baidoo, found the net once again for Red Bull Salzburg, yet his effort wasn’t enough to prevent a stunning late meltdown as the champions fell 3-2 to WSG Tirol in an eventful Austrian Bundesliga clash on Sunday.

Baidoo, 19, was handed another starting role and looked lively from the outset. Salzburg seized early control, and after Moussa Kounfolo Yeo levelled the scores just 11 minutes in, the momentum swung heavily in favour of the hosts. Yeo turned creator shortly before halftime, threading a clever ball through for Baidoo, who coolly slotted home to extend Salzburg’s lead to 2-0.

The Ghanaian winger, now on four league goals for the 2025/26 campaign, continued to threaten until he was substituted in the 61st minute. However, his exit coincided with a dramatic unraveling.

Barely three minutes after Baidoo left the pitch, Nikolai Baden Frederiksen ignited Tirol’s comeback with a sharp finish to cut the deficit. Sensing vulnerability, the visitors pressed relentlessly and were rewarded in the 74th minute when Jamie Lawrence rose highest to nod in the equaliser.

Even going down to 10 men in the dying minutes didn’t derail Tirol’s momentum. Deep into added time, Salzburg conceded a late penalty, which Valentino Müller dispatched with composure to complete a remarkable turnaround and deliver a crushing blow to the champions.

For Baidoo, it was a personal bright moment overshadowed by a nightmarish collapse for Salzburg, one that will undoubtedly spark questions within the camp as the title race tightens.
