Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has revealed that a funding request of $1.12 million has been tabled for the Black Stars’ two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October.

At a press briefing in Accra, Sports Minister Kofi Adams explained that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) lodged the budget proposal on September 18. The following day, it was sent to the Office of the President for clearance and approval.

According to the Ministry, the proposed spending covers all expenses related to the double-header, $733,000 earmarked for the away fixture against the Central African Republic, scheduled for October 8 in Casablanca, and $387,000 allocated to the October 12 home game with the Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The estimates are designed to cater for the team’s logistics: international travel, lodging, daily allowances, access to training facilities, officiating costs, match bonuses, and other necessary support services. Minister Adams insisted the request aligns with long-standing financial guidelines.

“There has been no deviation,” he affirmed, brushing aside suggestions of political meddling or administrative delays. He also underscored that the playing body’s welfare remains fully protected. “The players are our priority, and we have treated them with respect and professionalism.”

The Minister further commended the GFA for its collaboration and emphasized government’s dual responsibility, backing the national team on one hand, while ensuring discipline and accountability on the other.

Ghana enter October’s qualifiers in search of a minimum of four points from the two fixtures to maintain their drive toward the 2026 World Cup.

The Black Stars begin their campaign away to the Central African Republic before hosting Comoros four days later in Accra.
