Ghanaian international Baba Iddrisu has made an inspiring return to competitive football, stepping back onto the pitch for UD Almería nearly ten months after a devastating injury derailed his season.
The 29-year-old midfielder featured in Almería’s away fixture against Real Sociedad B in the Spanish Segunda División, a match that marked the end of a gruelling 286-day road to recovery. His long-awaited appearance came after suffering a serious injury on November 26, 2024, during a home clash with Córdoba, a moment that sidelined him for the remainder of last season and tested his resilience to the core.
Local newspaper La Voz de Almería described Baba’s return as “very emotional,” celebrating his restored confidence and trademark smile. The club, which has sorely missed his experience and composure in midfield, now looks to him as a potential catalyst in their push for La Liga promotion.
¡Qué alegría volver a ver tu sonrisa, Baba! 😊

Head coach Rubi, pleased to finally have the Ghanaian back in the fold, hinted at carefully reintroducing him into the starting line up.
“He has to be used, one day he will be used,” the coach remarked, signalling that Baba’s minutes will increase as he regains full match sharpness.
For Baba, this comeback is about more than just playing football, it’s a testament to his determination and work ethic during a painstaking rehabilitation process. The former RCD Mallorca standout, who has been a regular fixture for the Black Stars in recent years, will also have his form closely monitored by Ghana’s national team selectors ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
As Almería aim to reignite their promotion charge, Baba’s return feels like the arrival of a new signing, a steadying presence ready to make his mark all over again.
