The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced it will withhold its official response to the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ recent budget commentary until after the Black Stars complete their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking to the press, Sports Minister Kofi Adams stirred conversation earlier this week when he disclosed adjustments and cost-cutting measures in the national team’s expenditure for the September fixtures. While the revelations have generated buzz among fans and pundits, the GFA says its current focus is firmly on supporting the players and technical team.
“As the custodian of Ghana football, the GFA will, in due course, provide clarifications to the issues raised,” the Association noted in a statement issued on September 2. “We, however, deem it prudent at this time to maintain our collective focus on the immediate national task at hand, the crucial qualifiers against Chad on September 4 and Mali on September 8.”
The FA has called for unity, urging Ghanaians to rally behind the team as they prepare for what could be season-defining matches in the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be staged in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars will first travel to N’Djamena to face Chad on Thursday, before returning home to welcome Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday. Both encounters are seen as pivotal to Ghana’s qualification hopes, with the GFA stressing that “unity and commitment” are the squad’s greatest assets.
By postponing its reply to the Sports Ministry, the FA signals a desire to keep the spotlight firmly on the team’s performance rather than administrative debate, at least until the final whistle blows on this round of qualifiers.
