Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi delivered a commanding display to inspire Nashville SC to a memorable elimination of Inter Miami CF from the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The centre-back was a rock at the heart of Nashville’s defence, playing with composure and intensity as his side secured a 1-1 draw on the night, enough to advance on the away-goal rule after a goalless first leg.

It was a night that carried special significance for Lionel Messi, who reached a historic milestone by scoring his 900th career goal. However, the spotlight ultimately shifted to Woledzi, whose assured performance helped frustrate Miami’s attacking threats for large spells.

Messi had earlier given the hosts a dream start, calmly finishing off a slick move orchestrated by Sergio Reguilón, the former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur full-back.

Nashville, though, regrouped after the interval and found their breakthrough through Espinoza, whose crucial strike swung momentum in favour of the visitors and sealed progression.

The result marks a significant statement from Nashville, who now set up a quarter-final showdown with Club América in the next round of the competition.

Since arriving from Fredrikstad FK during the winter transfer window, Woledzi has quickly established himself as a key figure in Nashville’s backline, with this latest performance further underlining his growing influence.
