Former Ghana first-choice goalkeeper Richard Ofori has set his sights on earning a national team recall as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper, now guarding the posts for AmaZulu FC in South Africa, has been absent from the Ghana setup since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast. During that campaign, his unfortunate mistake in the closing stages of a 2–2 draw with Mozambique proved costly, ultimately contributing to Ghana’s early exit from the tournament.

After parting ways with Orlando Pirates and securing a move to AmaZulu as a free agent in September 2024, Ofori believes his path back to the national team lies in consistency and dedication at club level.

Speaking to iDiski Times, he explained: “I’m working hard in my team to help my team in the league, and then the rest will take over. Recently, no, I haven’t spoken to coach Otto Addo, but before, he used to call me. He’s a good man who checks up on his players.”

Once regarded as one of Africa’s most reliable goalkeepers, Ofori understands the competition for places under Otto Addo is fierce. Still, he remains confident that focus and form will do the talking.

“I’m focused on my club right now. That’s what you need to do if you want to be there [at the World Cup],” he added.

Black Stars book their ticket: Ghana marches back to the World Cup stage

Ofori made his international debut in 2015 and has since earned 33 caps for Ghana. As the countdown to the 2026 World Cup continues, the experienced goalkeeper is determined to write a new chapter in his Black Stars journey.
