Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku once again showcased his incredible consistency and reliability, producing a commanding display on Sunday as Kasimpasa battled Kocaelispor to a tense 0-0 draw in the Turkish Super Lig.
In an unexpected tactical shift, the typically central defender was pushed into a right-back role, a move that proved inspired. Opoku not only adapted seamlessly but emerged as one of the standout performers at the Yildiz Entegre Kocaeli Stadyumu, completing the full 90 minutes with remarkable composure and authority.

His efforts were reflected in a superb 7.4 match rating, one of the highest on the pitch in a contest defined by grit rather than goals.
From a statistical standpoint, Opoku outperformed every Kasimpasa defender on the day. He registered 44 touches, more than any other defender, and topped the team in accurate passes with 20 out of 24 completed. His ability to break lines remained evident as he connected with two of his three attempted long deliveries, while his defensive awareness shone through with the most interceptions recorded in the match.
The former Udinese centre-back has become an indispensable figure in Kasimpasa’s survival fight, offering consistency and leadership each week. This season, he has featured in 14 of the club’s 15 league fixtures, starting every match he has been available for.

His resurgence has not gone unnoticed at home either. The Black Stars technical team, led by Otto Addo, is closely tracking the 27-year-old as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Opoku’s latest performance only strengthens the case for his national team return, and reaffirms his status as one of Kasimpasa’s most influential players this campaign.
