Ghana international defender Nicholas Opoku has officially completed his switch to Spanish outfit UD Las Palmas, bringing his spell in Turkish football to an end.
The 28-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the Canary Islands club until June 2028, joining from Turkish Süper Lig side Kasımpaşa.
Opoku heads to Spain with a wealth of experience accumulated across several leagues and footballing cultures. His career began at Berekum Chelsea in Ghana before taking him beyond the country’s borders, with the commanding defender subsequently turning out for Tunisian powerhouse Club Africain, Italian Serie A club Udinese and French side Amiens SC.
His latest chapter in Turkey has further enhanced his credentials. Opoku was a regular presence in Kasımpaşa’s backline during the 2025/26 campaign, making 30 appearances and logging 2,435 minutes as the club successfully negotiated a difficult relegation battle.
He signed off his time in Istanbul in impressive fashion, helping Kasımpaşa produce a memorable 1-0 triumph over eventual champions Galatasaray. Opoku delivered a disciplined defensive performance as his side kept a clean sheet against the league winners.
Now, the Ghanaian defender embarks on a fresh challenge in Spain, with Las Palmas hoping his experience and defensive authority can strengthen their push for promotion.

Las Palmas are seeking an immediate return to the Spanish top flight after suffering relegation from La Liga at the end of the 2024/25 season. Their first campaign back in La Liga Hypermotion brought encouraging progress, as they finished among the division’s top five before their promotion ambitions were ended by Málaga in the play-off semi-finals.
Opoku’s acquisition is therefore viewed as an important addition to a squad undergoing considerable change. The club have seen several defensive departures during the summer and are reshaping the team under new head coach Rubén de la Barrera.
With a blend of emerging academy talent and experienced recruits, Las Palmas will be hoping Opoku’s familiarity with high-level European football can prove instrumental as they mount another assault on promotion.
For the Ghanaian, the move represents another significant milestone in a career that has already taken him from the Ghana Premier League to some of Europe’s most competitive footballing environments.
