Belgian top-flight outfit KRC Genk have intensified their pursuit of Ghanaian attacker Jerry Afriyie as they look to secure the teenager’s services ahead of the new campaign, Footy-Africa sources have learned.
The 19-year-old forward is understood to be the subject of negotiations between Genk and Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah, with discussions reportedly reaching an advanced stage as the Belgian side works towards completing a deal.
Afriyie’s future has remained uncertain in recent weeks. The highly-rated youngster has continued to train with Al-Qadsiah during pre-season, but his involvement has done little to quell speculation that he could be heading for a fresh challenge.
The Ghanaian already has considerable familiarity with Belgian football, having spent the entirety of the 2025/26 season on loan at RAAL La Louvière.
That spell proved valuable for the emerging forward, allowing him to adapt to the demands and intensity of the Belgian game while gaining regular competitive exposure. He finished the campaign with five goals across all competitions.
His performances have subsequently attracted interest from Genk, a club renowned for giving opportunities to young talent and developing players into high-level professionals.
Should the move materialise, Afriyie would remain in Belgium but step into a new environment where he could continue his development while competing at a higher level of the domestic game.
For the Ghanaian prospect, a transfer to Genk could represent an important next step in a career that is beginning to gather momentum, offering him another platform to sharpen his qualities and establish himself within European football.
