Databank Ghana Chief Executive Officer Kojo Addae-Mensah has cast doubt over Kwasi Sibo’s suitability for the Black Stars, arguing that the midfielder falls short of the standard required to represent Ghana at international level.

Sibo was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America and was handed a starting role in each of the four matches played by the Black Stars.

However, the 28-year-old struggled to win over critics, with his displays during the tournament drawing considerable scrutiny as Ghana’s campaign ended in the Round of 32 following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.

Assessing Sibo’s contribution to the national team, Addae-Mensah believes the midfielder should not be considered for Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

“Kwasi Sibo is a good footballer, but not good enough to play for Black Stars,” Addae-Mensah told Asempa FM.

Sibo’s club future is also currently uncertain after his contract with Spanish side Real Oviedo expired, leaving him without a club.

The midfielder had previously built his career in Spain, where he featured for several clubs before his spell with Oviedo.

The Black Stars will now shift their attention to the AFCON qualifiers, with Ghana scheduled to begin their Group C campaign in September.

Ghana have been placed in a group alongside neighbours Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia, as they seek to secure a return to the continental showpiece after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
