Ghanaian shot-stopper Joseph Anang has been named among the final contenders for the Soccer Writers Ireland (SWI) League of Ireland Goalkeeper of the Year Award, capping a season in which he proved virtually unbeatable for St. Patrick’s Athletic.

The 24-year-old delivered one of the most authoritative goalkeeping performances of the 2025 campaign. Across 36 league fixtures, Anang marshalled St. Pat’s backline with maturity far beyond his years, conceding just 32 goals and recording a remarkable 18 clean sheets, the highest tally in the division. His presence between the posts became the backbone of a team that ultimately boasted the league’s stingiest defensive record.

Week after week, Anang showcased razor-sharp reflexes, commanding aerial ability, and a calming influence in pressure moments. His consistency not only lifted St. Patrick’s Athletic but also amplified his international profile, culminating in his Black Stars debut last week during a friendly against Japan.

His outstanding campaign has now earned him a place on a three-man shortlist for Ireland’s top goalkeeping honour, where he competes with Ed McGinty of Shamrock Rovers and Brian Maher of Derry City—two keepers who themselves delivered high-calibre seasons.

The winners of the 2025 SWI Awards will be revealed on Friday, December 5, offering Anang a golden opportunity to crown his breakout season with one of Irish football’s most respected accolades.
