Abdul Fatawu Issahaku brought the curtain down on 2025 with another telling contribution, capping a year of contrasts on a positive note for both himself and Leicester City.

The year began far from ideal for the Ghana international. An anterior cruciate ligament injury kept him confined to the sidelines, forcing a patient and often frustrating recovery process as he worked his way back to full fitness. For months, his focus was simply on returning to the pitch.

Fast forward to the opening stages of the 2025/26 campaign, and Issahaku has re-emerged as a central figure in Leicester’s attacking setup. Sharp, direct and increasingly influential, he has been instrumental in driving the Foxes’ promotion ambitions, combining goals with creativity from wide areas.

Leicester’s final outing of the calendar year summed up his resurgence. Issahaku was the architect of the opening goal in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Derby County, producing a perfectly weighted pass for Bobby De Cordova-Reid to convert and set the tone for the contest.

Derby responded swiftly, drawing level through Rhian Brewster just three minutes later, but Leicester regained control before the interval when Jordan James struck to restore the home side’s advantage, a lead they would not relinquish.

Issahaku’s influence lasted 70 minutes before he made way for Jeremy Monga, having once again left his mark on the game.

His assist against Derby took his Championship tally to four goals and seven assists, impressive numbers that underline his growing importance to the King Power outfit.

As Leicester continue their push for an immediate return to the Premier League, Issahaku’s turnaround from injury setback to attacking leader stands out as one of the club’s most encouraging storylines heading into the new year.
