Dundee United midfielder Emmanuel Agyei has thrown his name firmly into the conversation for a Black Stars call-up, declaring himself ready to make the step up to Ghana’s senior national team after an encouraging start to life in Scottish football.

The 21-year-old joined the Tangerines from Israeli Premier League side Ashdod for an undisclosed fee, arriving in Scotland with valuable top-flight experience under his belt.

During his time in Israel, Agyei featured 27 times across two seasons, sharpening his game in a competitive environment before making the switch to the Scottish Premiership.

Since settling in at Dundee United, the former Dreams FC man has quickly become a regular presence in midfield. He has already clocked up eight appearances, starting seven of those matches, and has not looked out of place in the physical, fast-paced nature of the Scottish game.

Agyei’s growing influence has been reflected in his numbers on the pitch. Across 615 league minutes, the energetic midfielder has registered 15 interceptions and 24 clearances, underlining his defensive awareness and work rate in the heart of midfield as he continues to adapt to his new surroundings.

While fully aware of the responsibility that comes with wearing the Ghana jersey, Agyei believes he is mentally and physically ready for the challenge should the opportunity arise.

“It’s not easy to wear the Black Stars jersey, so I’m waiting for that big opportunity,” he told Asempa FM. “I am ready for a Black Stars call-up, and this is the time.”

With Ghana intensifying preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the young midfielder is hopeful his steady rise in Scotland will not go unnoticed by the national team handlers.

He has made a direct appeal to head coach Otto Addo and his technical team to monitor his performances in the Premiership:

“I urge Coach Otto Addo and the Ghanaian coaching team to keep an eye on my performances in the Scottish Premier League, and if I’m doing well, to give me a chance with the Black Stars.”

At club level, Dundee United currently sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership standings and will be aiming to build momentum when they travel to face Falkirk on Saturday, February 14, a fixture that offers Agyei another platform to showcase his growing influence in midfield.
