Accra Hearts of Oak are poised to bring Enock Asubonteng’s spell with the club to an end, with the midfielder expected to leave the Phobians today, as per multiple reports in Ghana.

The 25-year-old is understood to be among the players caught up in Hearts’ ongoing squad restructuring as the club prepares for the 2026/27 campaign under newly appointed head coach Nebojsa Kapor.

Asubonteng arrived at the capital-based giants from West African Football Academy (WAFA) in August 2021 and has spent the past five years competing for a place within the Hearts setup.

Although his opportunities have varied, the versatile player remained part of the club’s plans during the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign, featuring in the squad and making matchday appearances.

However, his future at the club has increasingly appeared uncertain in recent months. A possible move away had previously surfaced, with Major League Soccer outfit FC Cincinnati reportedly showing interest in taking him on loan.

Those links, coupled with growing reports of an impending squad clear-out at Hearts, had placed Asubonteng among the players whose futures were under scrutiny.

His departure now comes as his existing contract reaches its expiration date. The midfielder’s deal officially ran until June 30, 2026, leaving him free to pursue a new challenge without a transfer fee being required.

While his next destination remains unknown, Asubonteng will now weigh his options as he searches for the next chapter of his career.

For Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, his exit represents another piece of a broader rebuilding exercise. The Phobians are expected to remain busy in the coming days as Kapor and the club’s hierarchy continue reshaping the squad ahead of the new season.
