Frimpong blow deepens Liverpool’s defensive crisis

Liverpool’s injury woes have taken another unwelcome turn, with dynamic full-back Jeremie Frimpong ruled out for up to six weeks following a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

The Dutch-born defender, who is of Ghanaian descent but represents the Netherlands at international level, picked up the injury during the Reds’ emphatic 5–1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt last week.

It’s another setback in what has been a stop-start beginning to his Liverpool career since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. Frimpong had already missed several early-season fixtures with a similar problem, and this latest blow threatens to derail his momentum once again.

According to Liverpool Confidential, medical staff do not expect the 24-year-old to return to full fitness before early December, ruling him out of a string of crucial matches.

The timing could hardly be worse for Arne Slot’s side. Liverpool have suffered a sharp decline in form, losing six of their last seven games in all competitions. The Reds now face a grueling run of fixtures that includes Aston Villa, Real Madrid, and Manchester City before the upcoming international break.

Following that stretch, the congestion intensifies, six matches in just 17 days, featuring both Premier League and European clashes against Nottingham Forest, PSV Eindhoven, and Inter Milan.

Frimpong’s injury leaves Liverpool worryingly thin on the right side of defence. Conor Bradley, only recently back from his own layoff, remains the sole fully fit senior right-back. Calvin Ramsay, who impressed despite defeat to Crystal Palace, may be handed further opportunities, while Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai could also fill in if required.

For Frimpong, the situation is particularly frustrating. The rapid, attack-minded defender was brought in to add width and energy to Liverpool’s flanks, but persistent fitness troubles have prevented him from showcasing his full potential.

As the fixtures pile up, Slot will be hoping his side can weather yet another storm, and that Frimpong’s latest setback won’t become a defining chapter in an already turbulent campaign.
