Gremio winger Francis Amuzu has publicly expressed his readiness to don the colours of Ghana, reaffirming his affection for his country of birth as the Black Stars gear up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Born in Accra but raised in Belgium from the age of two, Amuzu is the son of former Ghanaian footballer Theophilous Amuzu, who spent part of his career in Belgium. Football, therefore, runs deep in his family’s veins.

“My father is an ex-footballer. He played in Ghana before moving to Belgium when he got a contract there. I started to play football since I got the blood from my father,” Amuzu told Rodrigo Oliviera, a journalist with Radio Gaucha and Zero Hora in Porto Alegre.

The 24-year-old attacker has represented Belgium at youth level, turning out for both the U19 and U21 teams, but says his heart has always remained tied to Ghana.

“Yes, Ghana remains my first country. I have been there and also have some contacts with the family. So, I love Ghana. I am a Ghanaian since I was born there,” he added.

Since joining Gremio earlier this season, Amuzu has quickly become one of the club’s most exciting attacking outlets, netting two goals and providing one assist in 14 Serie A appearances. His lively displays in Brazil have earned him attention from scouts and national team watchers alike.

Amuzu admits he closely followed Ghana’s successful qualification campaign for the upcoming World Cup and would be proud to answer a call-up from coach Otto Addo.

“I am happy they (Ghana) qualified for the World Cup. The World Cup is a wonderful tournament – one of the biggest football competitions in the world. I am happy for Ghana,” he said.

“To be honest, my heart is in Ghana. If Ghana comes, for sure, I will go. I hope they can invite me but for now, my concentration is at Gremio, to try and perform well in every game.”

With his pace, creativity, and growing maturity in one of South America’s toughest leagues, Amuzu could emerge as a valuable addition to Ghana’s attacking arsenal as the Black Stars prepare for their seventh World Cup appearance in 2026.
