Ghanaian striker Felix Afena-Gyan has embarked on a new chapter in his career after completing a permanent move to Turkish outfit Iğdır FK from Italian side Cremonese, according to Footy-Africa.
The 22-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the ambitious Turkish club, ending his three-year association with Cremonese following a revitalising loan spell in the country last season.
Afena-Gyan arrives at Iğdır FK on the back of an outstanding 2025/26 campaign with Amedspor, where he rediscovered the form that once made him one of Ghana’s brightest attacking prospects. He contributed five goals and six assists in a season that culminated in Amedspor securing promotion to the Turkish Super Lig, establishing himself as one of the club’s most influential performers.
His impressive displays did not go unnoticed, attracting attention from several interested clubs during the transfer window. However, Iğdır FK moved decisively to secure the signature of the former AS Roma forward as they continue strengthening their squad.
Afena-Gyan first rose to prominence during his breakthrough spell at AS Roma under José Mourinho, earning widespread acclaim before Cremonese invested €7.5 million to sign him in 2022. Although opportunities were limited during his time in Italy, his productive stint in Turkish football reignited his confidence and reaffirmed his quality in the final third.
Despite enjoying an impressive campaign, the pacey forward was left out of Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with then Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz favouring alternative attacking options.
The permanent transfer to Iğdır FK now presents Afena-Gyan with another opportunity to build on his resurgence, establish himself as one of the league’s leading forwards, and strengthen his case for a return to the Black Stars ahead of upcoming international competitions.
