Abdul Fatawu Issahaku cannot wait to begin the next chapter of his career after sealing his move to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town, with the Ghana international eager to link up with his new teammates and embrace the challenge awaiting him at Portman Road.
The Black Stars winger, who has completed a five-year switch from Leicester City, is travelling to La Manga, Spain, where Ipswich are holding their pre-season training camp, and admits his focus is already on settling into his new surroundings.
“I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and starting work,” Fatawu said.
The 22-year-old arrives at Ipswich convinced he has joined a club heading in the right direction, revealing that the ambition shown by the Tractor Boys played a major role in his decision to make the move.
“I am proud to have signed for Ipswich Town,” Fatawu said. “The ambition the club has is very exciting, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season.”
Before putting pen to paper, Fatawu held discussions with head coach Gary O’Neil, conversations that left him with a clear understanding of the role he is expected to play as Ipswich prepare for life back in the top flight.
“After speaking to the manager, I know what the expectation is and I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and starting work,” he added. “I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I’m excited to play for them and show them what I can do.”
Having already sampled English football during his spell with Leicester City, Fatawu is familiar with the atmosphere generated by Ipswich supporters and is determined to repay their faith with exciting performances once the Premier League campaign gets underway.
The move marks another significant milestone in the winger’s remarkable journey, which began in Tamale before taking him to Sporting Lisbon, Leicester City and now Portman Road. Along the way, he has built a reputation as one of Ghana’s brightest attacking talents, combining flair, pace and creativity with valuable experience on some of football’s biggest stages.

Fatawu heads into the new campaign carrying the confidence of an impressive 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in all four of Ghana’s matches, including the Black Stars’ memorable goalless draw against England. His displays further enhanced his growing reputation, adding to an international résumé that now boasts 32 appearances and three goals for his country.
At club level, the winger also played an influential role in Leicester City’s Championship-winning season and has previously tested himself in UEFA Champions League football, experiences that Ipswich will hope prove invaluable as they prepare for the demands of the Premier League.
