Derrick Köhn has made his intentions crystal clear, he is not content with just being part of the Black Stars setup; he wants to become impossible to ignore ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Union Berlin full-back has thrown down the gauntlet to head coach Otto Addo, declaring his determination to lock down a place in Ghana’s final squad for the global tournament.
Speaking to Sporty FM after earning a call-up to the latest 26-man squad for upcoming international friendlies, the 27-year-old left-back spoke with conviction about seizing the moment and proving his worth on the big stage.

Ghana’s European tour will see the Black Stars take on Austria in Vienna on March 27 before a high-profile clash against Germany in Stuttgart on March 30. For Köhn, these matches are far more than routine preparations, they are a decisive opportunity to stake his claim.
“Personally, I want to play well in the Austria and Germany games so that Otto Addo would have no chance to keep me out of the squad for the World Cup,” Köhn declared.
Having only made his international debut in late 2025, Köhn is still carving out his place within the national team. Competition remains intense, particularly from established options like Gideon Mensah, who has long been a regular on the left side of defence.

Nevertheless, Köhn arrives in camp with growing belief, buoyed by solid performances in the Bundesliga. His blend of defensive discipline and attacking drive has elevated his confidence, and he now sees this international window as the perfect platform to translate club form into national team impact.
