Ghanaian midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh is on the verge of a long-awaited return to the pitch, bringing an end to nearly three years of frustration, rehabilitation, and resilience.

The SC Freiburg star has endured an excruciating 32-month layoff after suffering a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, a setback that abruptly halted his rapid rise in both club and international football.

Sources close to Freiburg reveal that Kyereh is now in the final stages of recovery and could make a competitive appearance before the end of October. His return is viewed as a major boost for both club and country, as Ghana seeks to rebuild its midfield depth ahead of crucial fixtures.

Before the injury, Kyereh had made an instant impact after joining Freiburg from St. Pauli, quickly becoming a fan favourite with his flair, vision, and goal-scoring instincts. In just 12 Bundesliga outings, he netted two goals and showed signs of becoming a pivotal figure in Christian Streich’s system before the unfortunate setback during the 2022/23 season.

The 28-year-old’s influence extends beyond the domestic stage. Kyereh was a key component of Ghana’s midfield at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and earned a place in the Black Stars’ squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where his technical quality and intelligence shone through.

While the past three years have been filled with physical and emotional challenges, Kyereh’s determination and optimism have never wavered. His imminent comeback marks not just a personal triumph, but a symbolic one for many players battling long-term injuries.

As he prepares to lace up once again, the gifted midfielder is poised to remind fans why he was once considered one of Ghana’s most exciting football exports, ready to rekindle his magic in the Bundesliga and don the Black Stars jersey with pride once more.
