Nashville SC centre-back Maxwell Woledzi has made his intentions unmistakably clear: the road to a Black Stars call-up begins with excellence at club level.

Fresh from his move to Major League Soccer after an outstanding spell with Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK, the 24-year-old defender is embracing a grounded, performance-driven approach as he chases a long-held international ambition.

For Woledzi, wearing Ghana’s famous colours is not a sudden aspiration sparked by recent progress, it is a dream rooted deep in his early years abroad.

Maxwell Woledzi seals long-term switch to Nashville SC

“I’ve been wanting to play for the Black Stars since I was in Nordsjaelland, so it’s not something new,” he said in an interview with GhanaSoccerNet, underscoring how long the national team has occupied his thoughts.

Yet, rather than lobbying for attention, Woledzi believes consistent delivery on the pitch is the only convincing argument.

“I just have to make sure that in my club I give my best and do what I have to do for the people in charge to see who I am,” he added, reflecting a maturity that mirrors his rise through the ranks.

A graduate of Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy, Woledzi is acutely aware of what a national team invitation represents, not just professionally, but personally.

“Everyone is hoping to play for the national team, and if you play for the national team, it is a proud moment for you and your family,” he noted, capturing the emotional weight of a potential call-up.

His comments arrive at a defining phase for both player and country. Ghana’s Black Stars are gearing up for a demanding 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, a test that will require depth, resilience, and emerging leaders across the squad.

Woledzi’s credentials are difficult to ignore. Before sealing his move to Nashville SC, he capped an impressive stint in Norway by being named Fredrikstad FK’s Player of the Year, a recognition that highlighted his consistency, composure, and growing authority in defense.

Now in the MLS spotlight, Woledzi knows the challenge ahead is clear: translate past promise into present performances. If he succeeds, the door to the Black Stars may not stay closed for long.
