Bibiani GoldStars have unveiled Greek coach Petros Koukouras as their new head coach, entrusting the highly-rated tactician with the responsibility of steering the club into the 2026/27 season following their historic Ghana Premier League triumph.
The reigning champions confirmed the appointment on Monday, bringing an end to the search for a successor to Swiss manager Fritz Markus Schmid, who departed the club earlier this month after overseeing the second half of the title-winning 2025/26 campaign.
Koukouras arrives in Bibiani with a growing reputation as one of the most progressive European coaches working in African football. At just 37, he has accumulated valuable experience across the continent, earning recognition for his tactical intelligence, disciplined playing philosophy and emphasis on developing young footballers.
His coaching career began in Uganda with Pacific Heroes FC before he joined the South Sudan national team as an assistant coach, gaining valuable international experience. He later took charge of Ugandan powerhouse SC Villa Jogoo, where his organised tactical system, strong leadership and commitment to youth development drew widespread praise.
The Greek tactician continued his African journey in July 2023 when he was appointed head coach of Rwandan top-flight outfit Kiyovu Sports, further enhancing his credentials while working in one of East Africa’s most competitive leagues.
Armed with a UEFA A Licence, Koukouras is widely regarded as a modern coach who blends tactical structure with an attractive style of play, while maintaining a strong focus on nurturing emerging talent.
His arrival signals the beginning of a new era for the Miners as they look to build on last season’s remarkable success and establish themselves among Ghana’s elite once again.
