Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has dismissed concerns over criticism from fans and pundits, insisting his attention remains firmly fixed on self-improvement and delivering strong performances for the Black Stars.

Since making his senior international debut in March 2025, the experienced shot-stopper has grown into Ghana’s preferred option in goal, earning praise for his composure and reliability. However, like many national team players, he has also faced moments of scrutiny from sections of the football public.

Despite the noise surrounding his performances, Asare says he refuses to allow outside opinions to affect his mentality or confidence.

“So I don’t worry about people’s opinion. I know we can make mistakes in life, but I don’t let that burden me,” he explained. “Today, I can make a mistake, but tomorrow I can achieve something great. So I don’t let some things worry me that much. My encouragement is that God helps me maintain the level that I am now.”

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper also rejected claims that his emergence with the national team happened unexpectedly, stressing that his rise has been built on years of dedication, discipline, and consistency at club level.

According to Asare, people unfamiliar with his journey may see his breakthrough as sudden, but those who have followed his career understand the effort he has invested over time.

“I’m a committed goalkeeper. Those who don’t know me will think I came from nowhere to the Black Stars,” he added.

The former league-winning goalkeeper further clarified that decisions regarding call-ups and team selection are entirely in the hands of the technical bench:

“Player appointment and goalkeeper selection are all the work of the coach.”

Asare is currently in camp with Ghana ahead of their international friendly clash against Mexico national football team on May 22, 2026. He earned a late call-up to the squad after replacing Dreams FC goalkeeper Gidios Aseako.
